PSHCE
Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education
The aim of the PSHCE curriculum is to equip and empower all students with the knowledge, understanding and skills they need to thrive as individuals in all aspects of life and to become active, responsible and respectful members of society.
At the heart of our PSHE curriculum is our Catholic ethos and mission. We recognise that every human person is made in the image and likeness of God. This belief underpins our approach to education and supports our students to develop as confident, compassionate and responsible members of our community and wider society. .
PSHCE is taught through discrete lessons in Years 7–11, providing students with dedicated time to explore important topics in depth. Lessons encourage reflection, discussion, questioning and the development of the knowledge and skills needed to make informed and responsible choices.
Our PSHE curriculum is designed to be flexible and responsive to the needs of our students and the wider school community. Bespoke curriculum time is built into our programme allowing us to respond to current issues, emerging needs and relevant local, national and global events. This ensures that our PSHE provision remains timely, meaningful and relevant to students' lives.
PSHE themes are also reinforced through Form Period, assemblies and collective worship, ensuring that key messages and values are embedded across the wider curriculum and school experience.
Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) is taught at age-appropriate points throughout the curriculum. RSHE content is delivered primarily through PSHE, Religious Education, Science lessons, drop-down days and other planned opportunities. All RSHE provision is carefully planned and delivered in accordance with statutory guidance and our Catholic ethos.
Our curriculum is designed to support students' personal development, promote positive and respectful relationships, develop resilience and emotional wellbeing, and prepare young people to participate positively and responsibly in society.
